1 dead, 8 injured after Blount County crash
Most people will agree that a car accident is stressful and emotionally exhausting in and of itself. But when car accidents are severe, and even claim a life, the stress and emotional turmoil can reach unparalleled heights. No matter what circumstances lead to a crash, a fatal outcome almost always spawns questions — questions that often go unanswered. A recent car accident near Knoxville, Tennessee, is no exception.
A 75-year-old man recently lost his life at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville from injuries he sustained in a tragic car accident that took place in Blount County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has reported that the man was a passenger in a van being driven by an unnamed individual. The van driver lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected, propelling the vehicle up an embankment. At the same time, another vehicle rear-ended the van.
The 75-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were airlifted to UT Medical Center where the man eventually succumbed to his injuries. The woman remained in serious condition at the time news reports were released. In addition to the couple, seven other people were transported by ambulance for treatment of injuries resulting from the accident.
Reports from the THP confirmed that drug or alcohol use is not suspected as a factor in the crash. All of the occupants were wearing seat belts. As of now, traffic citations are pending. However, no criminal charges are expected.
While many details of this fatal crash remain unknown, it’s highly likely the loved ones of those victimized have questions with regard to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
