Man struck by car in Knoxville dies after 6-week battle

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a man who was struck while crossing Kingston Pike in Knoxville, Tennessee, in early December. The 53-year-old man lived for another six weeks after the car accident, before losing his battle and passing away on Jan. 18. Services for the Rule High School graduate took place at the Jarnigan and Son Mortuary chapel; the burial was at Mount Olive Cemetery.

According to a report from the Knoxville Police Department, the man was hit by a car while crossing the 4800 block of Kingston Pike on Dec. 7, 2011. He was struck by a 27-year-old Knoxville man as he changed lanes in order to make a turn. No decision has yet been made as to whether the driver who was found responsible for the car accident will face criminal charges. A spokesman for the Knoxville Police Department confirmed that the Knox County Attorney General’s office has agreed, and the decision to file charges will be made after the autopsy and blood test results have been thoroughly analyzed.

Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents are not uncommon occurrences. In a densely populated area like Knoxville, the possibility of a pedestrian-vehicle collision increases. And while there is no reparation for life lost in such an accident, the victims’ loved ones may choose to pursue compensation for their pain and suffering.

In cases like these, compensation is often used to cover the cost of final expenses, including funeral costs or outstanding debt, or even to help offset any remaining medical bills.
