Knoxville car accident involving 6-year-old results in arrest

A Knoxville, Tennessee, woman was recently arrested for striking a 6-year-old boy with her car and then fleeing the scene of the accident. Reportedly, the car accident took place when the young boy, along with several other children, was crossing the street outside a Boys and Girls Club near the 300 block of McConnell Street. The 18-year-old female driver attempted to pass the group instead of waiting for them to cross.

The driver allegedly hit the boy with her vehicle and proceeded to flee the scene. Emergency responders took the little boy to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Thankfully, the 6-year-old escaped the car accident with only minor injuries.

Law enforcement officials later arrested the woman at her apartment. She was charged with reckless driving and driving without a license. She also faces charges in association with driving without insurance and leaving the scene of an accident. There are currently no details available as to what additional legal ramifications she may face as a result of her actions.

Thankfully, the little boy involved in this accident was relatively unharmed. Unfortunately, cases like this do not always have such a positive outcome. Undoubtedly, the boy’s family is thankful for his safety after the incident. However, it is well within their rights to seek legal recourse and possible monetary damages for the pain and suffering they endured. In cases like this, monetary reparation can be used to cover outstanding medical bills — and may also serve as a punitive action to deter future driver negligence.
