Tennessee personal injury claim may follow recent child injury

Tennessee officials are still on the lookout for a car and driver that reportedly hit a go-kart injuring the two children riding in it. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating and identifying the driver and car believed to be responsible for this personal injury accident. A boy and a girl were in the go-kart on Henry Haynes Road when a black sedan driving on Babs Road turned, striking the front portion of the go-kart.

Both children sustained injuries in the accident. Though the exact nature of the injuries has not been identified in reports, it was reported that they are fortunately not considered life-threatening. Both were treated at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Their names and ages were not released. Neither occupant of the go-kart was wearing a safety restraint, though the boy had a helmet on.

Officials believe that they are looking for a male driver of a dark colored, possibly black Nissan sedan. Officials state that the car will likely have damage to the front-end bumper and possibly a broken headlight. Anyone who believes that they have information is urged to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

It is always sad and challenging when children suffer a personal injury due to the negligence, recklessness or carelessness of another person. In this case, the trauma and devastation is greater because the driver apparently did not even stop to assist the children after they were injured. The family of the children may choose to investigate their children’s rights under Tennessee personal injury laws to determine the viability of seeking monetary restitution for the costs and other damages incurred. To prevail, they will need to prove the driver negligently caused or contributed to the injuries sustained.
