Report lists 10 cities with most crashes, 10 crash-prone hotspots

Tennessee drivers probably know that no place can be entirely immune from car accidents. However, it may be beneficial to know which cities and which regions see the most accidents. This is where a report from Go Safe Labs comes in. Researchers at the San Francisco-based transportation nonprofit analyzed the 953,630 car crashes that occurred nationwide in 2019 and then compiled a list of the 10 cities that saw the most crashes.

At the top of the list was Houston with 22,188 accidents in 2019. Charlotte, N.C., and Los Angeles came in second and third with 21,818 and 19,660 crashes, respectively. Two more cities in Texas, Austin (16,635) and Dallas (14,685), followed. The list ended with Raleigh, N.C., Oklahoma City, Baton Rouge, La., Nashville, Tenn., and Phoenix.

Nationwide, accident numbers rose 6.8% from 2018 to 2019. Interestingly enough, four of the cities in the top 10 saw a decrease in 2019. Raleigh experienced the greatest decrease of 25.5%.

Researchers then compiled a list of the country’s 10 most accident-prone “hotspots.” None of these were linked to the 10 above-mentioned cities. Three were in the city of Greenville, S.C., including the No. 1 hotspot, the Pelham Road Exit on Interstate 85. Other hotspots included an intersection in Columbia, S.C., and three locations in metro New York City.

Accidents are often the result of negligence. Therefore, a crash victim who incurs an injury through no fault of their own may be able to seek compensation. Damages could be paid out in an out-of-court settlement or, if negotiations don’t work out as planned, after litigation. Because the process can be complicated, victims may want legal representation.
