Fatal Tennessee car wreck leads to closed highway lanes

An accident which led to the closure of several lanes on Interstate 75 on a recent Tuesday in July led to one fatality, while three more people were injured. The accident, involving only one vehicle, happened just before midday. Tennessee authorities suspect that drugs may be involved in the car wreck.  

It is reported that a sedan carrying four people landed on the median of Interstate 75 after the vehicle rolled over after leaving the road. The two backseat passengers were ejected from the car, as they were not wearing seat belts. A 41-year-old backseat passenger was killed, while a 19-year-old woman was injured. Both the 66-year-old driver and his 7-year-old front-seat passenger also suffered injuries.

It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle may have been under the influence of drugs. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has ordered testing. The accident is currently under investigation and criminal charges may follow.

Irrespective of the outcome of any criminal charges, the legal estate of the deceased victim may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the sedan. Depending on the severity of the injuries of the living victims, they or their families may choose to file personal injury claims. Should the investigation into the car wreck prove driver negligence, or should the results of the blood test come back positive, a Tennessee court may award financial damages to the respective plaintiffs. Damages awarded in successfully presented claims may assist the victims or their families in recovering from the stress of unexpected expenses.
