A 67-year-old man fatally injured in Tennessee car wreck

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a fatal accident involving a van and an SUV on a recent mid-April Wednesday. Two other people were injured in the car wreck.  According to the report, the two vehicles collided head-on at approximately 2:30 p.m.

It is reported that a NET Trans vehicle was southbound, when a northbound SUV crossed over into the opposite lane and hit the van head-on. Emergency personnel requested that emergency helicopters assist with the transportation of the injured. Unfortunately, bad weather made it impossible for the helicopters to take off.

The 67-year-old NET Trans van driver died at the scene of the accident, while the passenger in the van, a 34-year-old woman was injured. NET Trans is a rural transport system in the north eastern part of Tennessee. The 54-year-old SUV driver was also injured.

Traffic authorities are investigating the accident. The SUV driver was cited, but it is not clear what the citations were for. She may also be charged criminally once the investigation is complete.

Regardless if criminal charges are filed, the family of the deceased driver may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the SUV driver, while the injured passenger may elect to file a personal injury claim. In Tennessee, civil claims arising from a car wreck where the evidence suggests that reckless driving was the root cause of the accident may result in an award of monetary damages. A successful wrongful death or personal injury claim may assist the family of the deceased or seriously injured victim in meeting the unexpected expenses arising from the accident.
