Car accident injures Knoxville police officer

Car accidents happen every day, but it’s not every day that an officer of the law is on the receiving end of a collision. A Knoxville police officer was injured in a car accident on Northshore Road on Saturday. According to reports from the Knoxville Police Department, the officer, the driver, and the passenger of the other vehicle were injured in Saturday’s car accident.

The police officer was on duty making sure a Knoxville bar was adhering to alcohol sales standards. Following the inspection, the officer left the establishment to follow up on a reported traffic violation. As he exited the parking lot, a pickup truck attempted to make a turn but drove in front of the officer’s patrol car. The two vehicles collided as a result.

The officer, the driver of the truck, and his passenger were all transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. According to reports from the police department, all three men are stable. The police report pertaining to the car accident indicates the driver of the truck is 28 years old, and his passenger was a 27-year-old male.

Knoxville authorities believe that alcohol played a role in the cause of the car accident. Charges against the driver are currently pending the outcome of the investigation. There is currently no additional information concerning the severity of the charges that may be brought against the driver.

As this case shows, car accidents can cause serious injuries to those involved. Many car accidents are caused by negligent driving, which can include drunk driving or texting and driving.
