Motorcycle versus car wreck — 2 bikers in critical condition

In a recent serious accident in Tennessee, two people were sent to a hospital after the bike they were riding on was hit by another vehicle. The accident is just one more example of how little chance bikers stand in a motorcycle versus car wreck. The accident happened not long after 8 a.m. on a Thursday morning at the beginning of November.

The preliminary investigation into the accident noted that the motorcycle driver was traveling west on the highway at the time of the accident. The driver of a pickup truck, a 51-year-old female, was trying to cross the road when she hit the motorcycle, injuring both driver and passenger. She stated she did not see the approaching motorcycle.  

The 43-year-old female passenger was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Centre in critical condition, while the 60-year-old male biker was also taken to the same hospital. It is not clear how serious his injuries were. The first reports indicated that the female passenger died, but this was later refuted.

According to the investigating officers, there is no indication that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the accident. However, should the evidence prove that negligence was the root cause of the car wreck, the seriously injured victims may choose to file personal injury claims.  If the critically injured female victim does not survive, her legal estate may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the pickup truck driver. In a successfully litigated claim a Tennessee civil court may award financial damages to the victims for damages resulting from the accident.
