Tennessee personal injury: 4 injured, 1 man killed
An accident has claimed the life of a 55-year-old man who ended up in the middle of a police chase while he was sitting in a vehicle. The driver who is deemed responsible for the crash is a 49-year-old woman who had just stole a police car in order to flee from Tennessee officers. Four other people were also victims of this incident and have suffered personal injury as a result.
According to authorities, police were in the middle of arresting the woman when she somehow was able to steal one of the police vehicles. While trying to flee from officers, she crashed into multiple vehicles, a guardrail and a gas pump. One of the vehicles she crashed into had a male passenger inside. The man was unable to survive the impact from the collision and four other people who were involved suffered injuries.
The woman was eventually apprehended by law enforcement and placed under arrest. She was charged with violation of probation, fleeing and vehicular homicide. She is being detained at a county jail on a $402,500 bond.
Aside from the woman’s pending criminal charges, she may have other legal woes to contend with. Depending on the extent of their injuries, the victims may experience pain and suffering and elect to file personal injury lawsuits against the woman. The victims may also face financial loss, such as medical expenses and lost wages. The family of the deceased man retain the right to pursue a wrongful death claim against the woman. All victims involved may be awarded damages by the civil court system in Tennessee upon proper proof of negligent or reckless conduct.
