Tragic Tennessee car wreck leaves many students mourning
An accident on a recent Saturday afternoon in August has resulted in the death of an army veteran and a sophomore. The driver of the car, a 29-year-old army veteran, passed away on the way to the hospital, not long after the car wreck. The Tennessee sophomore, a 14-year-old boy, was a passenger in the vehicle. He suffered serious injuries and passed away on the Monday after the accident at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. According to authorities, the driver lost control of his vehicle and consequently left the road. The vehicle crashed into a tree and then rolled over.
A resident of the area and her grandchildren were out walking when they heard the accident happen. She said that she looked up when she heard something like an explosion, only to see car parts flying through the air. The resident sent her grandson to call for help, while she went to see if there was something she could do. More people arrived to help and tried to ensure that the smoking car did not ignite.
The 14-year-old boy was well-liked and students from the school are mourning the loss of a friend and fellow student. They have been working to raise money to assist the family of the deceased Tennessee boy. It is not known why the driver lost control of the vehicle, but should evidence suggest that negligence was the root cause of the car wreck — a common conclusion in these types of tragedies — the family of the deceased may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the estate of the deceased driver. Although monetary damages received from a successful wrongful death claim cannot change what happened, it may help the family cope with the unexpected expenses arising from the accident.
